St. Mary’s Catholic High School Hockey Skills Academy

Is open to all students and is a credit in grades 9,10 and 11 (New for 2020). The Hockey Skills Academy will help student athletes improve and enrich their individual hockey skills, while developing their personal fitness. This course will emphasize building character through achieving both athletic and scholastic success. On ice sessions led by highly trained staff, strength and conditioning designed to maximize physical attributes, and a focus on leadership, citizenship and career exploration will position the student athlete to achieve their individual goals.


Senior Program (Specialist High Skills Major - Sports)

Open to any student with Phys. Ed. accepted into the SHSM Sports program. The Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) is part of Ontario’s Student Success Strategy initiative, which focuses on expanding quality learning opportunities. The program enables students to build a foundation of sector focused knowledge and skills before graduating and entering apprenticeship training, college, university or the workplace. Students will develop their leadership, athletics, fitness and interpersonal skills while earning a coop credit(s) and valuable certifications in the sports and fitness employment sector.

2020-2021 Fee Structure for Hockey Skills Program


The fee for the program is $450.00. A $150.00 deposit is required at the time of registration, remaining $300.00 is due before the first ice session. The deposit is non-refundable without a medical note.

Included in that fee will be:

- 40-50 on ice sessions with a Teacher and/or a Skills Instructor

- Your own Hockey Skills Academy Jersey



Students will be entered into the program on a first come first serve basis. The number of sections running will be determined by total enrollment in the course (as determined by Hockey Academy registration forms and deposits).

Students are NOT required to take the Junior Program in order to be registered in the Senior Program. Students in the Gr. 11 PAL 3O are not required to be SMHS major students.

Students are required to arrange to have their equipment transported to the school each day before prior to period 1 when we are having on ice sessions. Students can air / store their equipment throughout the day in the team change room at school. (Locked)
