OSSLT Update

The Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) measures whether students are meeting the minimum standard for literacy across all subjects up to the end of Grade 9. Successful completion of the literacy test is one of the requirements to earn an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).

This year, EQAO is field testing a new online OSSLT. The purpose of this field test is to allow students and educators to become familiar with the new model, and to support the validation and development of the new platform.

What this Means for LDCSB Students

The OSSLT field test will take place at St. Mary’s Catholic High School on April 6th – Cohort A and April 8th – Cohort B for students participating in in-person learning and working toward their Ontario Secondary School Diploma. Students in Grades 10 and 11, and non-graduating Grade 12 students can attempt the test and, if successful, have it counted on their transcript.

Because the Ministry of Education has waived the literacy graduation requirement for all students graduating during the 2020–2021 school year, graduating students do not need to take the field test.

Cohort A students will write on Tuesday, April 6th and cohort B students will write on Thursday, April 8th. The test will take one day. Students will be using dedicated Chromebooks provided to the school for the test, which will be collected and sanitized between each test.

We highly encourage all eligible students to attempt the test. To prepare for the test we need to survey whether your son/daughter would like to write the test. Please complete the survey before Friday, March 19th to indicate if you will be attempting the test. You need to complete the fillable form by using the link or the QR code below:
