Library

St. Mary’s High School Library can assist with reading and research needs. The library is a large, inviting space with many tables and seats to accommodate classes and individual students with an online course or on spare. Library print materials include fiction, non-fiction, reference, picture book, and graphic novels. Digital resources include several online subscription resource databases which are always accessible to students and staff through the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).

Students and staff may log in to their LDCSB Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) to access Library Resources via Student Tools or the VLE Library Learning Commons - SMH. (Librarian manually adds students & staff)

The Library VLE is the place to go for digital subscription research databases such as Gale and EBSCO, facts & statistics, Canadiana, Subject Research Guides, Multimedia, and Library Catalogues.

The library has the crucial resources you will need to succeed in school:Resources – we have a wide range of information resources in the library and online, including books (and ebooks), research databases, and more. To search for available materials, check out our online catalogue in the library by the circulation desk or in your LDCSB Virtual Learning Environment. Just remember to chose St. Mary's, Woodstock from the drop down menu.Research Assistance – Librarian, Mrs. Roefs, can help you find what you need for school projects, whether it’s in a book or on the Internet, and teach you how to research more effectively. Fun stuff – check out our current book displays, coloring sheets table, free bookmarks, browse our graphic novels, or latest fiction!Study space – come in to study, work quietly on group projects, use a laptop, or just relax, read, or colour.

HoursThe library opens every day at 7:00 amThe library is closed for lunch every day 11:30-12:30 pmThe library closes every day at 3:00 pm.PoliciesThere are three main rules in the library:

No food (drinks, in a closed container, are okay)
Be in uniform.
Be respectful of the space and the people in it, and follow staff direction for safety.

Other things you might want to know:Borrowing items from the library:

you may sign out up to 4 items at a time, but only 2 on the same topic
you may also renew them, even if you don’t have them with you!
loan period for books is 3 weeks.
ebooks & audiobooks are signed out for 2 weeks using the Sora app.

Overdue notices are sent by email.There are no overdue fines, but replacement charges apply for lost or damaged books. Payment is made through School Cash Online.

At St. Mary’s High School Library, we want to offer our students as many options as possible when it comes to reading. Just like everything else, books and their formats are changing too.

While the standard book format will be around for a while, the SMHS Library is embracing digital book formats as well.

We hope that if you have any type of device where you can access digital book formats, that you will take advantage of our ebooks and digital audiobooks. Some of these ebooks don’t even have to be downloaded or checked out.
